    New airport runway

    • Due: Mid-2020
    • Sunday, July 12 marked the culmination of a 40-year vision and eight years of construction when the new $1.1b second runway opened. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Governor Paul de Jersey cut the opening ribbon before Virgin Australia flight VA 781 to Cairns took off from the 3.3km runway.
  • Cross River Rail

    • Due: 2024
    • Test blasting begins near the Albert St underground station and the new Woolloongabba station, while the project's first roadheader goes to work excavating the first part of tunnel section at the Roma Street site. More than 2000 people are working on the $5.4b project.
  • Queen's Wharf

    • Due: 2024
    • The $3.6b integrated resort development basement structure emerges from the ground, over the next six months the four towers will rise above George St. Since July last year about 3000 tonnes of structural steel and 24,000 cubic metres of concrete has gone into the CBD project.
  • New cruise ship terminal

    Cruise Ship Terminal

    • Due: Late 2020
    • The $177m terminal is on track to accept its first ship in October. Major construction activities are nearing completion, supporting 250 jobs on average during the project. The 208m wharf is now built, finishing touches are being made on the terminal while the facility's two state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges are expected to arrive in July.

    • Due: 2023
    • Work is set to ramp up on the major transport project with 2600 jobs expected to be generated throughout planning, design and construction which will begin on Stage 1. This includes the upgraded Cultural Centre station, public realm improvements in the Cultural Centre precinct, changes to Victoria Bridge and North Quay, the new Adelaide St tunnel and public realm improvements on Adelaide St.

    • Due: 2030
    • Dexus lodges new plans for its $2.1b transformation of the Eagle St riverfront, including two commercial towers, 43 and 49 storeys high, and more than 9000sqm of public space.
  • West Village

    • Due: 2023 (Final stage)
    • It's full steam ahead for construction of the retail area within the $1b transformation of the old Peters Ice Cream precinct, including 35 boutique food and lifestyle providores, an 1800sqm fresh food market, health club, supermarket and 450 carparks.
  • QPAC

    • Due: 2022
    • Official planning approvals are secured, clearing the way for construction to begin on the $150m theatre.
  • Ballet Centre

    • Due: 2021
    • Stunning images reveal the vision for the redevelopment of the historic Thomas Dixon Centre, boasting six studios, and a 357-seat studio theatre, cafe, bunker bar, rooftop terrace, wellness suite and gardens.
